It was a delight for Kate Carty to meet the keen readers of the U3A Oriental Bay book group in Wellington on July 15. Kate spoke about how she came to write her novel Run Thomas Run, and about the Assyrian community in Wellington. The audience was surprised to hear that local taxi firm Kiwi Cabs was started by Assyrians, and that modern-day Assyrians can be traced back to the ancient warrior race which had an extensive empire in the Middle East many centuries before Christ.
