Masterton Paper Plus has a lively ‘bookish group’ that meets once a month. At their last meeting on 10 September, Adrienne Jansen talked about the research she had done for her latest novel, A Line of Sight. What was required to turn an actual incident about a shooting into a novel about a shooting, a family, two communities, and the Vietnam War?  Researching a novel can take a writer into all kinds of territory, in this case firearms use, police procedure, the history of conscientious objectors in World War II, and the experience of men in the Vietnam War. Visiting book groups has become an important part of Escalator Press, particularly since notes for book groups are now on the Escalator website
